Peer-to-peer EV charging · Ontario

Your driveway earns while you sleep.

PlugNest connects EV drivers with neighbours who already have a home charger. Hosts earn while their car sleeps. Drivers charge a few doors down, for a fraction of fast-charging prices.

No new hardware. If it's plugged in, it can earn.

How PlugNest works

Two sides of the same driveway.

Same platform, whichever way you plug in. Switch to see your side of it.

For hosts

Turn a charger you already own into $150–300 a month.

Your charger sits idle most of the night. PlugNest fills those empty hours with drivers nearby — and pays you for power you were barely using.

  • Set your own hours, price, and blackout dates.
  • Approve every driver before they book.
  • Paid out weekly, straight to your bank.

You keep 88%. PlugNest's 12% covers payments, support & insurance.

For drivers

A fraction of highway prices, right in the neighbourhood.

Skip the highway station markup. A neighbour's Level 2 charger tops you up overnight for about what a public one costs — except it's on your street and it's reserved for you.

Built so letting a neighbour in feels easy.

Verified drivers

Everyone is ID-checked before they can book a single session.

Pre-paid sessions

Drivers pay up front. No cash at the door, no chasing anyone down.

You're in control

Availability, pricing, blackout dates — your charger, your rules.

Two-way ratings

Hosts and drivers rate each other, so the good actors rise to the top.

Questions, answered

The things people ask first.

Drivers pre-pay the moment they book. After the session, we send your share to your bank — you keep 88%, paid out weekly. No cash, no invoices, nothing to chase.

Yes. If you own a Level 1 or Level 2 home charger anywhere we operate in Ontario, you can list it and let neighbours book time on it. There is no equipment to buy, no installation, and no monthly fee — PlugNest takes 12% only when you actually earn.

It depends on your rate and how often you open up the charger. At $2 an hour, an eight-hour overnight session pays you $14.08 after our 12% fee — and the power costs you about $2 at Ontario's overnight rate. Hosts who make their charger available most nights are looking at roughly $150–300 a month.

Against highway fast charging, yes — substantially. Fast charging in Ontario runs about $0.35–0.62 per kWh, while a neighbour's Level 2 charger at $1.50–2.50 an hour works out to roughly $0.21–0.36 per kWh. Against public Level 2 the prices are similar; what you gain is a reserved spot on your own street rather than a garage across town, and you charge while you sleep. A full overnight top-up is usually $12–20.

It is the same idea as home-sharing, applied to electricity. People who already own a home EV charger rent out the hours they are not using it, and drivers nearby book and pay for a session through the app instead of queuing at a public station.

We are taking sign-ups across the Greater Toronto Area, Hamilton and Niagara, Kitchener–Waterloo, Guelph, London, Windsor, Barrie, Ottawa and Kingston, with more of Ontario to follow. We switch on neighbourhoods one at a time, and the waitlist decides the order.

No. If you have a home charger — or even a standard outlet — you can list. A smart plug is optional, and lets sessions start and stop automatically without you lifting a finger.

Level 1 (a regular household outlet), Level 2 (240V home chargers), and smart-plug setups. You tell us what you have, and we show drivers the charging speed up front.

Completely. Set your available hours, block off dates, and approve each request before it's confirmed. Your charger is only bookable when you say it is.

No, and we would rather say so plainly than leave it vague. PlugNest is the booking and payment layer — we do not provide property, liability, or vehicle insurance. Your home insurance and the driver's auto insurance are what apply, so check your policy before you host; some insurers treat paid use of a driveway differently. What we do provide is a paper trail: every guest is identified, every session is pre-paid and timestamped, and both sides rate each other, so there is a record if something goes wrong.

Every driver is ID-verified before they can book, every session is pre-paid, and both sides rate each other afterward. You approve who comes and when — and you can decline anyone.
